Captain of our destiny

3 Days ago I was giving training on timeline. It took me by surprise that not many of my students has the ability to see more than 2-3 years in the future. One comment even say that I only work on what's coming to me.

If I do the same thing this year and the next year and the year after that would there be any changes to my carreer? Would there be any new set of skills you have encountered during those time - most likely not. Doing things base on responsive behaviour most probably would make us do the whole circle before pin pointing the place we wanna be. Excessive energy and agony during the process.

Why not doing it proactively?
Why not think 5 years from now what do I want and from there what skills do I need to support that? Instead of engineering our life by accident.
It is funny how I was once like that also. There just so many plans and all fall flat. Instead of thinking harder not to fall after planning, I decided to take whatever comes and see the skills I got from there. I end up with numerous skills that doesn't serve my purpose being here. I become the busiest people with no exact aim, I was overwhelm.

I have done the machine gun approached as to a sniper one - one shot one killed.
A sniper plan the target, took the time (be patient), have the skill and boom there goes the target. Using machine gun makes a lot of noise some got killed but you never really know which bullet that cause this and not sure how to repeat it (dumb luck), what you have is all this busy sound on your head.

Engineering our own life is the best part of being human it's just a pity some of us put this part to the environment,to other people, to situation or to condition.
I would rather put my faith in my decision than to my circumstances.

So, what are you waiting for.
Think of something you want to accomplish within 5 years?
What efforts do you need?
What barriers that might come up?
What skills do you need to accomplish this?

All things are created twice in our mind and in reality. If we can't picture it or imagining it, which is the most easiest part of the whole process, would we even go through the perseverance and the discipline part?

By doing planning, we become a person who's thriving for accomplishment full of hope and faith instead of being a person who's striving on daily basis and not sure where to go, like a boat without a rotor in an open sea waiting for mercy of the wave to bring back to the island.

Let us become the captain of our own ship! Grab the rotor for God sake!

Now that's what I call service!

I was in Bakmie GM they have this new product "mie cha cha" discount 50%. So I thought why not order that but when I sat down I changed my mind. I talked to myself "you have been eatin noodle way too much" So I decided to change it to "nasi cha cha" thinking that I would eat rice and still have a discount of 50% but when I pay the money it was more than 15.000 IDR include ice tea that's strange it should be 11.000 IDR only if I ate mie cha cha and ice tea. Good thing there is another waitress there who approached me and said sir it would be cheaper if you order mie cha cha which has discount 50% and buy a bowl of rice. At that point I said to myself "Wow now this is customer service who give alternative and to retain customer for good". I would have paid the nasi cha cha without the discount and felt the sour taste later on. Giving the best alternative to customer really a paramount thing to do.
Oh yeah one more thing after I ordered the other waiter saw me from distance he noticed my long waiting face (a sign of someone waiting for his order) he took a glance of my ordered and rush in to take the order from the kitchen. Wow another customer service move. Not only he is sensitive enough to feel his customer (call it customer intimacy) he can feel the need to pursue this in order to gain solid team performance. I have to say Bakmie GM surely does continuous improvement in a lot of things. From service level that is including genuine politeness on serving customer (have seen a big american food chain who's trying to be polite but man you can smell they are faking it from distance), to make sure that efficiency in receiving order to the payment the first resto that ask for money upfront and was followed by other resto similar to it, and also the ability to limit usage of napkins, chilli, utensils. High cleanliness. If you want to learn continuous improvement in real life go to the nearest Bakmie GM and see the improvement on monthly basis.

Same experience different result

I have this hobby to learn and ask how people get where they are right now.
Who else would be my perfect subject then all my cab drivers that I have encounter everyday. Funny thing until today I only meet the same driver twice. In any case let's talk about driver A he talks about how he really upset on people who's snob and not giving tip. He sometimes curse those people and said that they will not go far. "They sound like they are really great obviously they don't realize that life can change and when they are rock bottom let's see how arrogant can they be. He told me he used to be working in goverment and goes for training in US however at the end he became a taxi driver not really sure why. However you can smell his bitterness.
Few months after that I encountered driver B, he is very polite. It started from the time I step in to the cab, he even greets the parking person. I started to probe him "How long does it take for him to be able to drive a car. He said "Well within a day , at that time I use my office car" I thought to myself oh maybe he was a private driver before apparently I was wrong. He actually working in goverment as well and his driver was having lunch and he thought why not learn to drive and so he took the car and start wandering around. From there I knew that he came from such high social status. He doesn't see himself as less he doesn't curse he doesn't interrupt me he doesn't feel that I look at him differently. There is no sense of bitterness at all.

Why two same incidents came out with different results?

It is how we relate the incident and the meaning that it tries to convey. Anything has two sides just like a coin it just a matter of which one would you choose. I know one thing choosing being bitter will not get him anywhere , will not make him the best that he can be. Driver B shows that a person can be BIG without material. Such politeness, and calmness a true definite thing that I will emulate. Thank you, Pak!

Kano Model

1. Must be
2. Performance
3. Delights
Though this model was meant to measure customer satisfaction there are some truth to it that can be applied in our daily life. Let’s do this with our body first

Must be - if none being done will dissatisfied our body and at the end will prevent us doing wondrous in this world.

Eating - 3 times a day never skip one of them no matter what.
Enough Sleep
Breathe deeper - not just breathing but really inhale and exhale
Do some house chores to keep the body moving
Away from eating anything dirty – you know the aftermath of this.
Drink water 8 glasses a day
Push up 20 times a day

Once this become our life style then come the next steps performance

Performance are those when keep doing it will satisfy our body
Work out 2 times a week
Read Books – Inspiring books
Write Something – Something to express your feeling and inspire people
Talk to people
Watch movie / comedy once a month or week depends on your enjoyment
Do what you love once a week
Drink Juice twice a week
Meditation

Delights is something that if not there will not dissatisfied the body but will definitely give meaning to life in the whole, the satisfaction of life

Sight Seeing – try something new
Eat something new
Smell new fragrance/ flower
Surprise your body – full treatment body - Massage/Spa
Write Something – that leave legacy
Share what you have and see the smile from those who received your gifts
Breathe and feel the blessed pouring down from the sky
Be with the nature go to mountain area , some may go down under the sea

Above are just fractions of sample that we can do to our body. Our body is our temple if we treat it well it will give back numerous fold to us. Doing wondrous seems common when supported by unstoppable body.

Repetition

When I am doing something and it doesn't go the way I wanted sometimes my mind just want to say "Hey, maybe this tool doesn't work?" or "Maybe this things were not meant for me". Well, before I decide any further I just have to find one person who's able to use the tool and very successful doing it and start question myself "What makes the tool effective?" "What makes a great picture is it the camera alone or the man behind the lens?" My buddy out there I hope you are in agreement with this, he is one of the talented cameraman I've known, even he has to take 300 picture and sort out 3 to 5 picture only at the end. Seeing from the rate of succesful picture seems to be 1%. Would that be considered good enough on the tool or the person?

After pondering it a bit then comes a new question it may not be the tool it may not be the person, what then? If I can take from Tony he said "Repetition is mother of all skills". So when you have the resources intact it is about doing it again and again to perfection. When you have the passion and if you are in "your" state 300-500 repetitions means nothing. Managing state is also important my favorite word for repetition is "Perseverance" you can have any word that you relate to and just hang it in front of your work station it can be consistent, persistent or it can be as bizzarre as I am bull! or you can even put a picture of light bulb just to remind you of how many attempts that Thomas Alva Edison did.

In order for all things to happen need to have such high probabilities and interdependencies if it happens to you then there is a reason behind it. How you always represent this as your feedback instead of unsuccesful attempt is a must.

I am not saying there would not be time when we have to move out and see it from other perspective and try to analyse what we have been doing, it would be insane expecting different result from exact same process.

It just, there is a need to strike balance between analysing and doing repetition. You can't analyse why the rice hasn't cook yet if you keep opening the rice cooker and checking each and every sample of rice.

Check your tool has it been used before?
Check the man behind the tool has he modeled correctly?
Check your state?
Check the amount of repetition? - Mastery is an art there is no exact number for each person.

Bizzarre Coincidence or Law of Attraction

When I am about to go home, nature called and not the small one, a bit delay going out from the office around 17:30. I went to my usual cab station, normally there would be around 5 cabs in a row because I am late there is only one cab left, an old Limo type not my favorite I always wanted to Neo Nissan - much comfortable back seat. In any case not much choice only one taxi left anyway. So I took it.

When I was inside the cab driver asked politely that he would turn on the meter. I am quite surprise on his greeting and then I smell "compound", it's what u use when you got scratch, he said sorry about that because he just got scratch by a bike. I said "Yeah,I know been there done that". From there we have quite a good conversation next thing I know he said oh btw I use EFT when I have this kind of moment. It took me by surprise how in the hell this cab driver knows about EFT, SEFT and finally he revealed himself as one of human resources trainer. Another surprise! What the hell a trainer do as a cab driver is he in financial problem? Before my mind got distorted even further he explained to me that he is doing a research and he has been doing this for a good 6 month and today is actually his last day, tomorrow he will return the cab.

We talk for a good 45 minutes I even asked him to take a longer route just to be able to talk more. We talked about NLP, SEFT, EFT, Hypnotherapy, Law of Attraction, Aura all the same interest as any trainer most probably have. Funny how I can meet someone like him in a cab going home. This is the second time when I have my doubt of being a trainer as if the road still not showing anything yet.

The first time I had a dream it was put in the shelf and for some reason I met a famous trainer which still climbing the mountain back then roughly 4 years ago , he happened to sit next to me , he said if you want to do anything better do it when you are still young. And so I put my dream alive again cause I know deep down I am destine to be a trainer. Today I was convinced again by this cab driver encounter and he said more less the same thing he said if you wanna do something better do it now and learn from your mistakes. Just like riding a bike one would need to fall before he learn how to balance. Well if I can squeeze one more before meeting this cab driver I met another trainer who for some bizarre coincidence has a daughter who's in the same kindergarten with my niece and so we can meet finally.

Is it coincidence all these things pop up in front of me or is it actually my interest that attract all of this and the world is working together to make this happen. I am still wondering and yet another fire burnin inside.

Good habits

A kid asked her mom,"If there are two wolves inside of me the good and the bad one which one will win?" Wise mom said "The one that you feed more".

As I reflect myself and see how beat up my good wolf and how fat the big bad wolf. It brings a shame upon me and so I patch the wound on my good wolf, I hug him I carry him away from danger, give him food and shelter. I turn the song "eye of the tiger". I train him to fight while luring the big bad wolf to pile of poisonous meat.

My good wolf will prevail...

Listen

My teacher used to say that God creates two ears and one mouth for a reason. Percentage wise that just shows we need to listen 2/3 of the time and the rest for speaking. As a leader you are not always giving instructions, there are times to receive input and to analyse before executing.

A leader is a follower, too in a sense that not everything has to come from his own creativity. It can come from his subordinate or even a stranger.

I always have this believe that the more you speak the less information you get from other individuals hence the less learning you could gain. That is why to strike balance more on listening is such crucial art in leading others.

Take out all the pre-judgement and perception when asking questions. Trully listen and understand what it meant from other person's reference. Your reference is not others.

Listen and you shall learn.
